Qipao(Cheongsam) , is a type of Chinese women‘s traditional dress. It originated from Manchurian clothing, and combines western tailoring style in 1920s. Qipao is the most common traditional dress on international events held in China. Chinese women wear Cheongsam mainly in some important occasion, however, some of them wear it in their daily life.

Qipao usually has:

• a stand-up collar

  Stand-up collar, also called mandarin collar, band collar or choker collar. It's a style of collar which is standing up on the upper garment rather than folded.

• a oblique lapel

  Cheongsam has its right front covered by left front, as a result, it has a oblique lapel just like Hanfu.

• Chinese button knots

  Chinese button knots consists of the knot and the loop. The knot is a ball-shaped button, and the loop is a button hole whose size need to fit for the knot. Cheongsam has these Chinese button knots on the right of the cloths while Tang Suit has them in the middle.

• a form-fitting style

  Influenced by the western aesthetics, modern Cheongsam developed a form-fitting style. Therefore, Cheongsam became the most sexy traditional dress for Chinese women.

Qipao is a kind of formal wear in China, it can fit any formal occasions. For example, you can wear it in conferences, ceremonies feasts. On the other hand, it can fit ordinary occasions also.
