The styles of women's Chinese clothing are diverse and rich with cultural significance.

The most important Chinese clothing style for women was the hanfu. "Hanfu" is actually a general term for all traditional Chinese clothing before the Qing Dynasty, it emphasizes modesty and grace. Hanfu has been worn for over 3,000 years. and there are several iconic styles that are instantly recognizable. One of the most famous styles is the Ruqun Hanfu, it refers to a style of hanfu that consists of two separate pieces of clothing - an upper garment and a wrap-around lower skirt. Another famous hanfu style is the Aoqun, many enthusiasts think it's a different style from Ruqun, but it's actually a subdivision of Ruqun. A Ruqun will be called as Aoqun specifically when the upper garment is worn outside of the lower skirt.

The other important Chinese clothing style for women was the qipao, also known as the cheongsam. It emerged as a symbol of modernity and sophistication in the early 20th century and gained international recognition and became the symbol of Chinese femininity.

While hanfu only be worn for ceremonies or activities in modern times, qipao has evolved from a traditional garment to a modern style dress. Modern Chinese clothing for women continues to evolve as designers continue to create new styles that incorporate traditional Chinese elements with modern designs.
