Wiki
Duanzhao in the Qing Dynasty’s clothing system was a round-necked, double-breasted, flat-sleeved, knee-length coat with long fur facing outward, slightly high slits on both sides, and a hanging strap hanging on both sides. It was worn by emperors, princes, and senior officials in winter as a substitute for gunfu and bufu, worn over ceremonial and auspicious clothing.
According to the system of “The Collected Statutes of the Qing Dynasty”(大清会典), Duanzhao could be made of different animal fur, including black fox, purple mink, blue fox, mink, lynx, red leopard, and yellow fox. Based on the quality and color of the fur, as well as the color of the lining and straps, it is further divided into eight levels. This is used to distinguish the wearer’s social status.
