This peaked cap is from the dress uniform of the Chinese Qing Dynasty’s New Army. And this particular one is a golden thread version and is intended for important occasions.
Of course, this is a replica. As you can see, it features 3 horizontal golden lines and 3 vertical golden lines on the side panel. These lines are actually made of copper but are designed to look like gold, which is consistent with the historical original.
The number of the horizontal lines and the vertical lines, as well as the color of the bead at the front, indicates the wearer’s military rank(please check the table below for more information).
You may also noticed there's a red button knot on the cap top, which is likely inherited from the “dingdai” of the official hats in Qing Dynasty.
