The Eighteen Stars Badge, also known as the Iron Blood 18-Star Badge, is a significant symbol in Chinese history, representing the early efforts of the Chinese revolutionaries to unify the nation.
The design features a red background with a black nine-pointed star and eighteen yellow round stars. While the eighteen round stars symbolize the eighteen provinces of China Proper(the core regions of the Han Chinese population) at that time, the nine-pointed star represents the nine ancient provinces recorded in the Yu Gong chapter of the ancient Chinese classic, "The Book of Documents".
The red color of the flag represents blood, symbolizing the sacrifices made by the revolutionaries, while the black color signifies iron, representing strength and resilience. The yellow color of the round stars symbolizes the Han Chinese descendants of Yan and Huang, who opposed the Qing Dynasty.
The Eighteen Stars Badge gained prominence during the "Wuchang Uprising" on October 10, 1911, which marked the beginning of the Xinhai Revolution. This revolution ultimately led to the fall of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China.
